At the Canton Fair, a Russian Certification Giant Bets on the Future of Industrial Supply Chains

GUANGZHOU, China — Perched at the southern tip of China, in the lush delta of the Pearl River, Guangzhou has long served as a gateway between East and West. Once a vital node on the ancient Silk Road and now the third-largest metropolis in the country, the city of soaring skylines and layered history has reinvented itself for the modern era as one of Asia’s most formidable commercial and manufacturing hubs.

It is here, each spring and autumn, that the Canton Fair — formally known as the China Import and Export Fair — draws the world’s attention. The largest trade exposition in China and among the most significant anywhere on earth, the fair hosts more than 30,000 exhibitors across dozens of pavilions, functioning as both a barometer of Chinese industrial ambition and a crossroads for global commerce.

This spring, the fair attracted a delegation from an unexpected corner of the world: ROSTEST, a prominent Russian testing, inspection, and certification authority, accompanied by its strategic partner, Swiss Engineering Group (SEG). Their mission was straightforward in outline but ambitious in scope — to scout key industrial pavilions, cultivate new relationships with Chinese and international counterparts, and advance a bold new service offering aimed squarely at the demands of large-scale industrial procurement.

A Week of Conversations on the Factory Floor

Over the course of their time at the fair, the ROSTEST and SEG teams engaged in a series of substantive meetings with Chinese and international certification bodies, inspection agencies, and manufacturers of industrial equipment. The conversations ranged from an exchange of contacts and market intelligence to detailed discussions about regulatory requirements and the prospects for long-term collaboration.

Particular attention was paid to equipment suppliers already embedded in the supply chains of major industrial enterprises — a category of vendor that ROSTEST knows intimately from its work across Russia and beyond.
